You know either you have a very big plane or you are just too darn short to see over one of the wing panels

Here's the Silver Fox doing his best Killean <sp> imitation and he is not on his tip-toes or bending down at all

now that we are knee deep...I really can't post more... just too busy..

But if you go to the top tool bar on the IMAC site and click on Nats 2011 News,
Chris Hockaday is doing an amazing job with a Nats blog, lots of pictures, and he is also doing the Nats news Newsletter on the AMA website...

Great Job Chris!

Two days in the books and I can not THANK the NATs Team enough. They are all making this easy for me. Whenever you run a contest you want Curtis to run your judging matrix, he has juggled the matrix fantastically. Frank and Randy have kept the lines moving to with in minutes of the planned times. Phil has kept things steady and calm. Kent, I have pinged him, Curtis has pinged him, just been then whenever any of us have needed him. WOW, i could go on for a while, but I need to get my a&& in gear.

THANK YOU ALL

The morning morning after, Saturday back at home. WOW, what an experience, Number 1 to work with (Phil, Curtis, Frank, Randy, Dave, Terry, Rhonda, Chris, Tina, Cheryl, Roy, Tim, Mark, Bill) and for (the Contestants) all these GREAT people. The AMA, I do not think anyones knows how much support they give us and how responsive. You all made by job so easy; what a pleasure to be a part of this event. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

There is talk on other sites about judging and such, but not from anyone at the IAC - so you all concerned about the judging, start making plans now, block off some time in late June early July 2012 now so you will be ready when we make the call for judges next year - we will need a minimum of 12 dedicated judges to make a good rotation - start planning now to support your sport.

Thank You all again, Pam and I really did enjoy ourselves!!!!

I'm home and well rested after a good night sleep next to my wonderful wife.

You guys did a great job with the contest. Thanks for all of the hard work in putting this on. I had a wonderful experience.

All the whining about judges is B.S. We flew 12 ½ rounds and I don’t remember any repeat judges, not to say for sure, but I saw a new set of faces every round we flew. That is a total of 26 judges. It would be a far stretch to say they all were bias to someone.

For me, I flew strong the first three days and was on top. The last day when it counted the most I was not clean. I was headed to the deadline on a cross box spin and had to “snap” into the spin; I earned a zero. In my known round I was just off. As tough as all the pilots were at the Nats, all it took was to be off a little to get beat. In my last unknown I totally messed up a maneuver and came out wrong and had to take 2 zeros and a break penalty. Thank goodness I got to drop that round.

Bottom line, the scores fell as they should.

If it would help, maybe next year you put 4 or 5 judges in the chairs for the last day to have more eyes looking for deductions. Now let’s see Curtis find 5 scribes for each line.

What a blast!!!!! I'm being pretty lazy today, but I have 13 gigs of photos transferring from a portable hardrive to my desktop as I type, so whatever week it finishes I will post a load of photos up. If anyone wants any in particular, let me know and I will e-mail you the full resolution version for printing/blowing up, etc. I can only e-mail a few at a time, due to the size of the images.

When's the next contest?

Just got back home and had a few thoughts:

Marian and I had a great time, thanks so much Wayne, Gil, Curtis, Phil, Ronda, Tina, Cheryl, and all involved with putting a very well ran event together.

Thanks to the judges, Curtis, Gil, Marian, Ray, Tim, Mark, Bill, and the contestants that stepped up to judge and scribe.

Thanks to Tom and several others that were there to observe and stepped up to do so much scribing!

Thanks to Chris for his coverage of the NATS and all the work he put in.

Thanks Dave for the score keeping and work through out the week.

Thanks for the BBQ dinner, who ever got that venue changed deserves a huge thank you!

Thanks to the AMA, nothing was ever left undone or needed. They kept it clean, mowed, serviced, let us in the museum after hours, and took great care of us all week!

Thanks to all of our friends we have made along the way. There are way to many to list here but I appreciate you all very much and am blessed to spend time with you. Also, thanks to Ivan, Nick, and Mike for coming down from Canada and giving us someone to blaim for everything <LOL>.

Thanks Marian for being a part of this hobby with me and enjoying it as much if not more than I do! Congragulations to Marian and Ty for the Presidents award, very well deserved and you two are appreciated.

Thanks Muncie for having a Texas Roadhouse!!!!! Matt, we will for sure have an evening out there another tiime when we don't have 20 of us sharing the same space.

Yes there was pressure, some wind, some rain, and a couple of crashes, but there was by far more nice weather, fun, flying, and fellowsihip than one could expect.

Will Berninger

P.S. Ryan, you were cranking by the end of the contest!

Curtis, thanks for keeping us informed on Dave. I looked for the accident site all weekend but could not find it.

Talked to Dave quite a bit at the NATS. He talked to me about his past boat racing and IMAC flying. I have his NATS trophy that I need to get in the mail.

Great to hear he is OK.

Looks Like our Friend Dave and the driver of the other boat are both VERY lucky!
Here is onboard video of the crash

Looks like if they hit differently it could have been much worse

(crash is at about 2:55 of the video)

H1 Unlimited hydroplane racers are a lot like IMAC pilots.

The U96 boat that Dave drives is in a competitors shop. Ed Cooper, owner of the U3 boat is helping repair the damage to the U96 Spirit of Qatar. Ed has opened up his shop so they can repair the damage before the race in Detroit this weekend. They even pulled the cowl off the old U3 boat and have fit it up to the U96.

You probably won’t see this in NASCAR.

NATs Scores are available on the 'NATs 2011 News Tab at the top of all the IMAC Site pages. Once inside the NATs page there are 4 tabs across the top part of the page, one for each class.
