We have finally finished the 2010 IMAC (USA) competition season which culminated on November 7, 2010. Overseas, there still are IMAC contests left to be completed in Australia, Chile and Mexico. The IMAC Sequence Committee has put in a tremendous amount of work during the 2010 season to supply many sets of Unknowns both for the USA and all of the International competitions. In addition to this, we have also produced a full set of 2011 Knowns, complete with the Alternate sequences for the Advanced and Unlimited classes. The workload from the volume of requests for Unknowns and also the Knowns has definitely put a strain on the committee which we have not experienced in the past 5 years.
Listed below is a breakdown of the Unknown requests for 2010. Within the compilations of these figures, there are several contests using the same Unknowns on the same weekend.
(a) IMAC Unknown Requests processed in 2010 (sets): 184 (National & International)
(b) Total Unknowns distributed to CD’s in 2010 : 736 (including two, three & four sets – NATS/Regionals etc.)
(c) Countries requesting Unknowns: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Great Britain & UK, Israel, Jamaica, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, USA.
The system of Unknowns request which is listed in the CD’s Corner, is not being followed by the Contest Directors and as a result has placed unnecessary burden on the committee. The requests MUST be made at least 10 days prior to the ensuing contest and we should have a confirmation from the Unknown Manager promptly. If someone has to check each region each weekend & then contact the CD to remind him/her to send in the unknown request it adds workload that really should be unnecessary. So…we are asking all Contest Directors to please locate and READ the CD Checklist and act accordingly…..thank you.
A few days after the AMA Nationals, on July 13th, the ISC team started work on the 2011 Known proposals for each class. This year, we did not split up the committee into two groups, but had everyone working together as a whole. Tom Wheeler again took charge of bringing the 2011 Knowns to finalization. All testing & suggested changes culminated on October 4th 2010 when the proposals were sent up to the BOD for scrutiny & approval. I am not sure if many members are aware of the amount of work that was put into this project since we did have additional “pressure” with the Clover Creek Invitationals which Kurt Koelling & Ty Lyman had participated in as pilots with Curtis Cozier judging at the event and myself as Chief Judge.
THANK YOU very much, Tom Wheeler, for spearheading our journey with the 2011 Knowns. There has been great feedback from our “Northern” brothers who are able to get in some flights with the new sequences before the Winter “socks” them in.
2010 saw two additions to the ISC. They are Jim Daly from Canada and Steve Nelson from California. These two gentlemen have been hard at work, learning the ins/outs of how the committee works and giving valuable input. We will be losing two members at the end of the year. They are Steve Richardson from Australia and Dean Nistetter from the SC Region. We all would like to thank both of you for your valuable service to IMAC & the committee. Dean was one of our Librarians who handled the Unlimited section. Andy Kane who is our Librarian for the other classes, has volunteered to continue in that position & also take over the Unlimited section. He will forego competition for 2011 so that he can handle the Librarian’s job in its entirety. Joe Cutright has advised that he is ready to return to the ISC effective immediately and we have re-instated him in his previous position. For the beginning of the 2011 season we will have 14 volunteer members in the ISC, “walking the pavement”. If you meet up with any of the ISC members, please remember to thank them for their unselfish dedication to excellence.
This now brings me to a “changing of the guard”. As most of you know, I will be assuming the role of President of IMAC in January 2011. The position of Chairman of the ISC bears a lot of responsibility and we have a VERY experienced and capable individual who has volunteered to carry the torch. Our new Chairman for the ISC will be our very own Tom Wheeler. I wish Tom and our entire committee the very best and I know that he will take us to new heights. I will remain on the ISC, working & helping wherever necessary.
Shown below, are members of the ISC for 2010. THANK YOU ALL for the invaluable service you have so willingly given to IMAC. Our present members are listed in alphabetical order: Tim Attaway (SW), Ted Barrette (Canada), Eddie Bernaldez (SC), Curtis Cozier (SE), Mick Dakers (Australia), Jim Daly(Canada/ missing photo), Andy Kane (NE), Kurt Koelling (NC), Ty Lyman (SE), Wayne Matthews (SE), Steve Nelson(SW), Dean Nistetter (SC), Steve Richardson (Australia), Mike Stoner (SW), Tom Wheeler (NC).
Best regards to all IMAC members & wishing everyone a Happy Christmas when it comes,
Wayne Matthews
