Final 2011 NATS Report: Gil Major took control of the GO-TO-MEETING screen to present a NATS summary slide show. 36 pilots attended this year’s national competition in Muncie Indiana. Gil thanked the BOD for their support and wanted to give a special thanks to those who gave their time and energy to make this year’s NATS competition run smoothly: specifically, Curtis Cozier, Mark Jorgenson, Bill James, Tim Attaway, Ray Fulks, Randy Foster, Frank Ford, Dave Langridge, Terry Foster, Rhonda Vance, Tina Schroder, Cheryl Jorgenson, Phil Vance, Chris Hockaday, Marian Berninger, and Kent Porter. Wayne Matthews wanted to give a special thanks to Kent Porter who stepped in and fixed scoring errors before they became an issue. Gil stated the banquet on-site was a great decision and was well attended. Gil recommended looking for a larger on-site room for future events. Members of the BOD who attended stated the only issue they would recommend changing was the communication regarding pilots meetings. The BOD thanked Gil for all his efforts in making this year’s NATS a success.

IMAC World Championships (2014): Wayne Matthews started a discussion about hosting a 2014 IMAC world championship. The discussion focused on questions regarding logistics, locations, number of pilots in each class, IMAC membership, and cost. Having national teams represent and fund their individual countries similar to other SIG’s was discussed. Wayne stated 7 countries have confirmed interest in participating in a World Championship. IMAC BOD agreed to continue the discussion towards hosting a 2014 World Championship. Wayne will gather more information regarding budget, venue, time, and will report his findings to the BOD.

Financial Report: Phil Vance presented the July and August expense reports. The current August financial report is attached below. IMAC’s total cash on hand (PayPal and checking account) is $ 16,062.76 as of August 9, 2011.

Phil also presented the current IMAC National summary (see below). As of 8/9/11 IMAC has not received funds from the AMA, however, when the final expenses are tallied the cost for running this year’s National competition should meet the budgeted amount approved earlier in the year.

Other Business:

1. 2013 RCP’s: Wayne advised that some of the RCP's have already been published for over the required month and it was now time to act on any response from members input. Craig suggested leaving all RCP's on-line although the time has passed.
The BOD will discuss any further refinements in the BOD forum prior to sending them up to the AMA. Wayne also brought up an additional RCP which should be made to coincide the start of the Unknown attempt as was done for the Known.

2. Flying Giants Scenario: A discussion regarding the threads on the Flying Giants forum was started by Curtis Cozier. Curtis stated IMAC should have a sound rule, but the current rule can be improved. Craig Baker stated the discussions on the Flying Giants forums should be used to drive improvement in IMAC, and not be looked at in a negative light. As leaders in IMAC, threads where members and nonmembers discuss issues and speak out passionately can create outstanding ideas to drive change. Craig stated he agreed with some of the issues brought up in these threads, i.e., removing sound from the scorecard and creating judge-able criteria for ACS. Curtis stated he could not support the suggestion to allow the CD to decide whether to have sound or not. IMAC has worked hard to have consistent rules and sequences throughout the Country and internationally; as such, he doesn't feel it is in the best interest of IMAC to have unique rules at each contest. No matter where the contest is, the pilots should be flying by the same rules. BOD members discussed adding a link on the home page of the IMAC website to the rules process explanation created by Roy Barrow (Why we Now Have to Fly Pink Airplanes). Members who blame the SACB for pushing their own agenda may not realize the SACB does not create RCP’s. The SACB can only vote on RCP’s sent to the AMA by members and the IMAC BOD. Wayne Matthews and Craig Baker will create a link and post to advertise Roy’s article to members. The IMAC BOD will continue to listen and discuss the issues brought up by members via email, forum posts, and discussions at the field, in order to drive improvement in IMAC.

3. Regional Directors Issues: Brian Sanik asked about the process for updating scores on the IMAC website. Wayne Matthews agreed to look into the process for Brian and get back to him so scores from his region would be posted as soon as possible.

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 11:34 P.M.

Next Meeting: A BOD conference call is scheduled for (a date to be decided) at 9:00 PM EST

I see that the issue of sound is reverberating into the BOD meetings....good.....but should the descision of sound be left to the BOD or to the membership....some of us feel more strongly about this issue than others..be that as it may...but the question comes to mind.....does the rd have the priviledge of denying the sound waiver to an event if the club where the event is being held does not have an issue with sound...If the cd is denied the waiver and the score program will not allow the removal of the sound score can or should the cd avail onesself to posting a 10 on all scores as per his or her discrestion....dont want to start a can of worms again...As to the rcp submitted....will we be allowed a vote or will it be decide by committee and will our vote count for something....pops

Hello there Bruce. Regarding your questions:
The BOD were voted in by the membership to make decisions. Yes...some members do feel strongly in BOTH directions.

The REAL question is: "What is BEST for IMAC in the long run"? We cannot just look for a short term "instant gratification" as many teenagers do. If we read Greg Hahn's(Technical Director) Model Aviation report in the Deceber 2011 issue you will see some of the views of the AMA regarding sound.

As far as leaving the decision of the waiver to the Regional Director regarding the Regional Points: If in the RD's estimation that it is a valid request, then I don't think anyone will voice against such a decision. However, please understand....THAT is a RD's decision.

On the soring program: As far as I understand, the program does not require a specific input for the rest of the calculations to be intact.

At this time there are no plans to re-introduce any changes to the sound rule with a RCP, as there are MANY more items to be tackled pertaining to the new Aresti changes and 2011 seemed to have worked fine with the previous changes.
Best regards,
Wayne

The 2014 Championship is the one point which will be discussed more. Also it is an important topic. Secondly, flying air planes is the best sport and also it makes us feel like a real pilot.
