The IMAC Rules Committee has been very busy the past few months. The IRC was formed to evaluate the current rules and/or new proposals that IMAC members follow. The committee members are represented from each region and Australia.
The IRC has been going through the F&J guide from discussions that were brought to attention during the National Judging School that was held in Jan. ’08. These were gray areas that needed refinement to better understand what was being asked by the pilot and the judge.
Through a process of reviewing each RCP (Rules Change Proposal), each member evaluates the proposal as it is stated in the F&J guide. Then a discussion is followed to see what is being asked to change. In most cases it’s a wording change to help the judge/pilot better understand what is being asked. In most cases it’s a wording change to help clarify the intent of the rule.
Some discussions are cut and dry, while others can get real interesting. Which is good, because each individual has their own thinking, but they also look at each RCP to see how it affects IMAC as a whole.
This is just a small part of what the IRC does. This past month the IRC came together and knocked out a proposal for the 45-degree hammers. This rule has already been submitted to the AMA for approval. Without the hard work of the IRC this couldn’t have been achieved in such a timely manner.
The next time you pass the individuals (who are members of the IRC) at your local IMAC contest, give them a big Thank You for a job well done!
