I have flown R/C off & on since 1978 and caught the IMAC bug 11-12 years ago. I live in Spokane Washington and it all started out innocently enough as a flying buddy of mine (a previous pattern flyer) said we should go fly a small local Imac contest for fun. Well, I left that contest with my Goldberg Ultimate still intact and that was all it took, I was hooked. I attended a couple more local contests and then traveled over to the Seattle area and entered Sportsman for my first Northwest points contest and had a blast. I flew Sportsman at the Imac Nationals in Toledo Ohio in the late 90's then moved to Advanced for about 5 years and now fly in the Unlimited class.

After 10 plus years, numerous different airplanes, meeting a great bunch guys, and the same wife (Thank you honey) I can say that I still enjoy this sport as much as I ever did. I look forward to leading the Northwest Region and contributing to IMAC’s future for the next few years.

Regional Update – September 2009

Well I can not believe the 09 season is almost over here in the Northwest. It seems like I just got done doing the contest schedule for '09 and here I am starting to think about 2010. It has been a good year for Imac in the Northwest with lots of contests to choose from and good pilot participation except in Unlimited where we have only had four scored contests. Basic has been well attended again this year with a region high of 17 pilots turning out at the Pacfic Coast Freestyle Championships.

Geoff Dryer one of a great bunch of guys from north of the border, and Bill Newman our very own retired Blue Angels pilot are fighting it out for the Basic crown with only 36 pts between them.

We also have a very exciting Sportsman chase for the Championship between John Eells and Henry Piorun, they have been fighting it out all year and right now only about 10 points separate the two of them with 1 contest to go. Will the Sportsman Championship go North or stay here in the states, right now it could go either way.

One Championship that is headed North this year and I believe for the first time is in Intermediate, Harv Dhiman has been dominating the competition this year and although a couple have come close no one has managed to take a win from him this season. He will be a force to deal with in Advance next year so everyone better be ready to bring there A game.

Darren Kuhn has a good hold on the Advanced class with Mike Verzwyvelt trying to real him in, but Darren will more than likely bring home his second Advance title in as many years.

The Unlimited class………zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……… this class has really taken a nap this year. With just a few participating pilots it has been very limited for sure, John Wondra has 3 wins and looks to repeat as champ this year. We hope to see both some new and old faces next year in Unlimited and get this class going again.

And now the Senior class, a few years ago we were not sure if this class was going to stick around or not but in the last couple years there has been renewed interest and with it going National this year it looks to be hear for good. Nick Bowling has really improved his flying this year and has got a strangle hold on the competition right now and looks to be ready to take that Senior Championship trophy home, is there anyone who can take it away from him.

Please make sure you check out your Regional points and make sure they are correct. To do this, log on, click on the Current Regional Points link in the middle of the home page and this will show you all your contests and the points you received for that contest.

See you at the Finals!!
