The Daytona Spring IMAC 2010 has come and gone and Kevin Garland ran another fine contest. Unfortunately a monsoon must have come on Thursday because the field was WET. Pilots started arriving on Friday and the pit area was so wet, some just took off their shoes and went barefoot, while others wore goulashes. Fortunately Saturday was quite a bit drier and Sunday was much better. I suppose this will happen occasionally when you live in Florida. The winds were tough once again as they were at our backs at between 10 and 20mph.
As for the competition, it was another close one. In Basic, JC Alvarez got his first win while in Sportsman, Luis (Snoopy) Verdiales started slow, but made a big comeback to capture the win. Intermediate was a close battle all weekend between Kevin Garland and Mariano Barrios Jr. It all came down to the unknown and Mariano really laid it down and took the victory. I was the lone Advanced pilot so the pressure was off for this one, but I am sure it will be back soon. Unlimited was also very close between Jason Shulman and Brian Luckett. They were within just a few points all weekend and Brian took the unknown by only 19 points which was enough to secure the win. Congrats Brian, awesome flying! I am sure we will be seeing you up there in the invitational events soon!
Kudos to everyone for coming out and flying in less than desirable conditions, and making this a very enjoyable contest.
See you in Tampa!
