North Central Members,
I hope everyone had a great holiday season. As winter is trying to set in, and we are getting teasing glimpses of springs flying weather. As we are in the heart of our off season there is still work that has to happen for us to fly this year. So, Contest Directors it is that time of the year again, I know we have several months before our season starts. However, we need to start thinking about scheduling our contests, there are several already posted on the schedule. Please get a hold of me about what dates you are thinking about and I’ll let you know if it will work. There have been some changes to the schedule from previous years, so please ask me before you submit your contest to the IMAC website.
Some notes for holding a successful a successful contest. When you go to submit your contest it would be very helpful if you filled out all of the spaces on the form and included some notes about your contest in the comments section. Some things that are very helpful (if there is one) that have been missing from a lot of the forms are: a club name, club website, map or address for the contest site, a flyer with pertinent information. Please include the following things either in the flyer or comments area: entry fee for IMAC members and non-IMAC members, no-fly before times, time for the pilots meeting, expected wheels up time, local hotels, if food will be available, freestyle, camping, etc. When you are organizing your event team you will need people to come up with a judges list, scorekeepers, who’s in charge of unknowns, food, etc. The scorekeepers will need to be using the latest version of the Score program, version 3.2 (as of January 2012). This version is more user friendly than the previous version. Have your scorekeeper download it, and get familiar with it. If they would like to run some test numbers, I have all the files from last year that I can send them. If you get a scorekeeper early enough in the year there will once again be some training sessions held, to show how to use and set up the program. If your scorekeeper would like to attend please let me know and I’ll get them the information. Once you have everything lined up for your contest, submit your unknown request well in advance of your contest to be sure that you get the unknowns.
Kurt Koelling has compiled a list of the previous regional point champions; it’s a little bit of North Central history I thought you all would like to see. The list only goes back until 1997. Up through 2001 IMAC did not have an Intermediate class, because we are emulating our full-scale counterparts, and they didn’t have Intermediate during that time. From 2002 through 2006 points were not awarded to Basic pilots.
