As the new Northeast Regional Director for 2011-2012, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I look forward to working for you to make this region the best it has ever been.
Ever since my father introduced me to control-line flying at the age of 12, I have continued to pursue model aircraft flight. I quickly moved on to RC Gliders and then to RC Planes and was introduced to Pattern Competition at the age of 15 and that was all she wrote – I was hooked on RC Aerobatic Competition. I flew pattern for many years working my way up to Advanced Class and then had to give it up while in the Navy on Sea Duty due to not having a flying field/job demands.
Once back on Shore Duty, and seeing that it was possible to fly again, I began to start looking at competition aerobatics again and found out about IMAC. After some research and recalling the drooling I had done as a kid watching the TOC pilots fly those big planes, I decided to get into IMAC. I flew my first IMAC competition in 2003 at the CAPI in Bowie, MD. I showed up early to get the lay of the land and figure out what I needed to do. When I got out of the truck, there was Dave Michael, who I didn’t know at the time, torque rolling his Radio Craft in the mist at the end of the runway. I had never seen anything like it in person, just imagined it from pictures I had seen of the TOC. I can still remember how impressed I was with the size, power, and sound of that big plane. I pulled out my ¼ scale Extra and started asking questions, and had a great time. Everyone was so helpful just like I remembered from my pattern days and I was hooked on IMAC. I swore that I would never let my career get in the way of this hobby again.
After 13 years in the Navy as a Submarine Chief Reactor Operator, I am out now and living in Port Republic, MD where I work as a Control Room Operator at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. My wife Nicole and I are the proud parents of our 5 year old son Chase and 3 year old daughter Caileigh. I currently fly Unlimited and it has been an awesome journey with so many great memories and many more to come.
See you out there - Happy flying!
