I would like to take this opportunity to introduce Brad Davy as your new Assistant Regional Director for Maryland and Delaware. Brad adds a lot of energy, ideas, and organizational skills to the team. He is already off and running by tackling the enormous undertaking of bringing a new contest to the schedule for 2011.
Born and raised in Damascus Maryland, I have been living in Frederick for the past 20 years. After a five year active tour with the US Navy, I eventually retired from the Navy Reserves in 2003. I’ve been working for the Department of Energy for 21 years where I am currently the Director of the Office of Worker Safety and Health Assistance, and run the DOE Voluntary Protection Program. My wife Jennie and I have 3 offspring aged 24, 21, and 16.
I’m a relative newcomer to radio control, having started flying radio control in 2004. A natural born cheapskate, I started flying SPADs (simple plastic airplane design), and progressed to building and flying both kits and scratch builds. Within a year of learning to fly, I was the president and lead club flight instructor for the Frederick Model Aircraft Club. My hanger currently consists of the original SPAD Debonair (equipped for FPV), a GP Cap 232 (my first kit build), a Fliton Edge 540 (my first ARF), a self-designed and stick built 90 size pattern plane, a GP Spirit Glider (electrified), a couple club trainers, and my pride and joy, a 30% Pilot RC YAK-54.
I was introduced to IMAC a few years ago while on travel. When I’m traveling, I like to find the local flying clubs and go hang out for a couple hours. On one occasion, the club was hosting an IMAC contest. I was impressed with the quality of the flying, as well as the camaraderie of the flyers. It was a couple years before I was able to find time to begin competing, but in 2010 I finally made the time and began competing in Basic. I am looking forward to improving both my flying skills, as well as working to promote the growth of IMAC not just in Maryland, but in the surrounding states as well.
