Eddie Bernaldez In 2004, I heard about a precision style of flying that involved duplicating full scale planes. I had been a pattern flier from back in the early 80's, so it peeked my interest. I went to my first contest in Sherman TX. and was hooked ever since. I have been in R/C since 1978. In my years of flying, I have flown everything from trainers to jets to heli’s. I have been my local clubs Vice-President now for 4 years. I am on my second year of working on the ISC and enjoying it. I spent the last two years as the SCARD and Chief judging instructor. I have helped with putting on our regions last three judging schools.

My everyday life includes (at this time) being engaged to a great gal which most everyone knows in the SC area. She reads and calls Aresti better than most. I am the Director of the Paramedic Program at Kilgore College. I have been in EMS for over twenty years and been teaching for 13 years. I have 3 grown kids on their own and a 15 year daughter. I also have two wonderful little ones (future step children). I hope to convert one to an IMAC pilot one day.

There is still many challenges in our region and I plan to do the best job I can to promote our IMAC contests.

South Central Regional Update–Jan 2012

South Central Pilots

Happy New Year  to everyone from Melissa and myself. We have had one of the busiest years in our lives here while she was in nursing school. It kept us out from competing much this past year.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and great New Years.  Our region has overall had fairly low participation these past two years. I know that the economy has played a role in this to an extent. I say that loosely because other regions have had great turnout over the same period. We as a region need to come up with ways to help this situation out. This year Abilene R/C Society is coming back to have a contest during the latter part of July if not by Fall 2012. The CD's of our contests this year need to have their scorekeepers participate in the tutorial for the score program. Most of you know that before any scores are posted they come to me. This past year I have spent a lot of time correcting IMAC numbers misspelling of names that have changed outcomes and changed the point totals. Some of our contests have taken awhile to post because I didn't receive the files needed within a reasonable amount of time. Guys this has to change!!!  The webmaster will not post any scores until verified by the RD. Wayne Matthews has challenged me in coming up with ways to improve our region overall, and I have been soaking on a few which I will post to our SC page next week.  Contest Directors need to go to the IMAC homepage and place your contest into the events page so it will come to me for approval, we have 4 up so far.

I apologize again for not being at the fore front as I should but that will change, we plan to make at least 4 or 5 contests this year.

I need input from you (pilots) as to if we should have a judging school this year. I need at least 20 pilots so the school can pay for itself. Need to know this soon so I can call Tarrrant College and get our rooms reserved.

Happy Flying,,,

Hi Eddie & all in the South Central. 2012 will be a great year for all of IMAC. The SC region has many great and competitive pilots who can hold their own against any of the Regions and probably come out on top!

There are also many motivated pilots in the SC going by the calls that I have received and I know that you all are ready and willing to jump in any help Eddie in any way that you can.

As Eddie mentions above, it is very important that Contest Directors and Scorekeepers pay close attention to the responsibilities that they have undertaken. I know it is volunteerism at its best and you should endeavor to do just that... Be the BEST!

Can the SC rise to the occasion and regain the "stature" of "being the BEST"? I do think you can...... Do YOU???

Safe flying to all & hope to see some competitors at the NATS this year!
Best regards,
Wayne

The American Turf Flyers have held a contest for the last 5 years with participation falling each year. The contest is hosted at a great field with lots of food, plenty of room, and hotels in close driving distance. Although we are dedicated to hosting again this year, without sponserships it would loose money each year. We will give it one more chance and try to make it a spring contest. I do not believe that the downturn in the economy has affected our region in attendance. The majority of the SC region have jobless rates lower than the NC or SE regions and fuel costs have remained relatively the same for the last few years. Promoting IMAC requires more than a judging school. The ARD's need to contact clubs through out the region asking them to host contests. We can't rely on a chicken or egg theory anymore. Leadership action must happen soon. Clubs that host contest may generate IMAC interest within their ranks fueling more participation within the region.

We just returned from the Cajun RC IMAC in New Iberia Louisiana.

All, this is a must attend location!!!! The club there is top notch and the flying facility is great! The contest was very well organized and was designed ultimately to the pilots.

My hats are off to the Cajun RC club. Great Job to all!!!

We met some new people and they were also top-notch!

We are looking forward to the next contest at the Cajun RC Club!!!

To all of the exceptional club members or the Cajun RC Club, Many,Many Thanks!!
