I was born and Raised in South East Michigan and always loved airplanes.. I built plastic models as a kid…and used to spend many an afternoon in the school parking lot…spinning around just about until I threw up flying the control line airplane!!!
Through high school I was involved in to music, Yep, I'm a drummer! And Alpine ski racing.
I ended up going to the University of Colorado and racing on the CU alpine ski team. After college, I lived in Steamboat Springs, CO for about 5 years and kept going with my ski racing. Racing was great as it took me literally all of the country, and I would spend large portions of my summers in Argentina and Chile to keep skiing.. There was a 3 year period that I never saw summer!!
Once done with racing, I was still addicted to adrenaline, so became involved in motorcycle road racing. What a great sport, but it wasn't cheap!
I then moved to southern California and lived outside San Diego for a couple years. Believe it or not, I missed winter!
With a work move, I ended up moving to the Chicago area. Turned out to be the best move, as I met my future wife there! This is about the time I retired from racing.
Jen and I decided to move out to Colorado where we lived outside of Denver, up in the mountains and commuted down to the city for work. I just couldn't get the mountains out of my system. I had always been involved in rock climbing since my college days up in Boulder, but I took it another direction at this time. I started ice climbing and Alpine mountaineering. I ended up climbing all over the states, Mt. Rainier, a couple giants in Mexico, and Denali twice.
During this period, my awesome son, Tristan was born. All of our family was back in the Midwest, so time to pack up and move to be closer to family. It was at this point that I took my hardest, but by far, most rewarding job… that of Stay at Home dad!
It was about this time that I started with R/C airplanes. I was taking my son to the local park near our house in Michigan, and I kept hearing this sound…… We went for a walk and it turned out there was an R/C club about 5 minutes from my house! As with anything I've been involved in, I dove in with a passion. It reminded me of my love for aviation and anything that flies! I talked with the instructors and purchased a Kadet LT-40 and worked with the instructors until solo. Tristan was in pre-school at this time, so I would drop Tristan off at Pre-school and head out the field just about every day for an hour or two. I flew every chance I had.
Well, it turned out that another member of the club was a young man named Andrew Jesky. I met and became fast friends with Andrew and his dad Tim. I saw the way Andrew as flying and new I had to do it. Giant scale, precision flying…
Enter IMAC. I had only been flying for less than a year when I entered my first IMAC contest. I won the contest and knew I was hooked.
Not long after that I was the Asst. Regional director for the North Central region. In my second year in IMAC, I competed at the Nats (finishing 2nd in Sportsman) and qualified for and competed in the Tucson Aerobatic shootout. Tristan had gone to school, so I took a job working part time at a local hobby shop and the die was cast.
Well, it was time to move again, My wife had a job opportunity in the Atlanta area, and after a few visits, we moved. Currently, I am the Operations Manager at Extreme Flight R/C and absolutely love it. I am currently serving as the Asst. Regional Director for the South East region and am really excited about the future that IMAC holds for all of us.
