This weekend would be a good weekend for IMAC if you live in Arizona. Bill Hempel, of Tucson, is Contest Director of this South-West early in the year points contest and it is a qualifying Shootout contest too. There looks to be a large turnout in BASIC and good representation up the classes. It will be a 40 dollar contest to all IMAC members and the weather will be good I am told.
May 2,3rd the Riverside CA IMAC is on and there are close to 30 pilots expected for this contest run by Larry Roberts and Jeff Szueber. Preregistration is on line with easy access.
On May 23-24th Joe MacGregor and the Bear Mountain Group will host the annual mid California contest that is usually well attended by pilots up and down the state as it is central and equally accessible for many and that includes a few from Arizona and Nevada.
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for June 27-28 in Good Ole San Diego. A return to the fine venue at Miramar RC Flyers right next door to the Miramar Air Base…it should not be missed. We had a great time last year and the pilot list is getting fat….check it out.
IMPORTANT….All pilots should try to be current with their IMAC status so to earn the class points that they richly deserve. It is very painless to go on line to www.mini-iac.com and right on the front page you can check if you need to renew. If it won’t let you do anything on the web site then it is pretty easy to figure that you are not current. Best 20 dollars you will spend this week. We know that these are tough times economically and because of that we have carefully selected venues that give all a chance to collect 4 relatively local contests. On that note I would like to remind that the 5th and final contest you might want to attend is the last one of the year and it looks like it will be in Arizona. We have a straw vote going now and the vast majority of voters….I wish there were more of you…..are going for the Phoenix or Mesa venue. Please take a moment and vote because we need to make a decision really soon. Actual deadline to voice your opinion is the last day of May.
The Airspace Control Score is getting a lot of attention right now and those that attended the Las Vegas IMAC got a long discussion from me about how to bring this into closer focus. Pilots had a tight box on the left and we did have sound checks while pilot pictures were taken….it was painless. Most of the pilots tested below the 98 db on the ground at 25 feet and my DA 150 on Biela 30 12 only showed 95 db. Most everyone passed except Mark Leseberg’s DA 200 on a 30 12. I can tell you there will be more and more scrutiny of the issue and I predict we will have a development of criteria to arrive at scores of 1-10 and it will be sooner not later.
If you have not looked at the gallery of pictures lately you might want to go there and do not forget to read new articles that are appearing all the time. Bruce Hanley writes some very good stuff on snaps and spins and everyone should take the time to run a copy from the web site.
