All of the SW pilots should know that our IMAC web guru….Roy Barrow had a run in with his DA 170 and was injured. He is out of the hospital and mending as we report this and I would like to wish him a speedy and complete recovery. I know all of the SW appreciates the many improvements we have seen in IMAC and many are the result of a great web site. Get well soon.
The NAT’s are coming to Muncie and Scale Aerobatics is up first June 29, 30, July 1, 2 and yours truly will be working as a judge. Not contestant judging and it looks like the ranks will be full. Some SW pilots are considering the journey and I hope it works out and they get to fly in the NAT’s.
James Brink, from Colorado, has agreed to take over for the long time ARD Zee Stekstal. Zee deserves our praise and gratitude for his contribution to Scale Aerobatics in recent years. He was regional director when I joined way back when. Thanks to both gentlemen for their help. James will be the one to turn to in the Colorado area when it comes to IMAC and getting contest venues in Colorado.
Freestyle action at IMAC contests is really coming on strong. We have seen a real surge in the Southwest with 6 competitors flying freestyle at the Kactus Klassic in Phoenix and 5 at the Riverside contest and now at Bakersfield we had 7 that competed for a cash prize pool of 1600 dollars. Zak West won it and Jeff Szueber took second and Todd Bridges walked away with 3rd place. Unlike hucking it these pilots fly 4 minutes choreographed routines to music and it will give them valuable experience and recognition for the Freestyle contest at the Tucson Shootout.
I would like to invite articles that relate to the SW region. If you as a CD or an organizer, pilot participant, vendor etc. in the Southwest have something of interest to write about then just do it and send it to Pedro Brantuas. Pictures from contests and write ups about funny things that have happened or just narrative about the event are fun to have on the site…..please feel free to step up and help out.
Next up on the contest schedule is Oakdale in the middle of California. We have a number of pre-registered but we could use a few more that need to get a contest in this year. Remember it is the top five contest scores for the year that derive the final standings in the South West.
Coming soon to the San Diego area is a great venue at Miramar RC club just off of the 15. June 27 -28 is the date for this IMAC contest and it should be nice weather. Sorry no camping since it is a military installation but the Santee Lakes RV is great for camping and it is just 10 minutes or so away. Expecting about 40 or so pilots at this time and this is a good time to escape the heat of Arizona and Nevada and come and play. Brian Copfer, ARD , is coming from Utah. Hopefully we will be able to get something of a freestyle contest going time permitting and if the interest is there. Don’t miss this good time in San Diego…sign up now. Down the road who knows maybe we will have an informal freestyle champion crowned at Superstition in November.
