Good morning everyone!

As I was planning my trip to the NATS next year, I realized that the trip wasn't going to be cheap! I saw a post from another region asking this same question of their members, how can we help our region's Worlds Team representatives make the trip more affordable?

The minimum cost for each member to attend the Worlds competition are outlined below:

Entry fee for competitor: $340
Food @$20/day for 6 days: $120 - I eat cheap :)
Hotel @$60/night: $360 - These are few and far between. If you camp, that would be a big savings
Fuel 1,300 miles round trip @$2.50/gal: $325 - based on my location in Rogers, AR

This adds up pretty quick to $1,145 PER TEAM MEMBER! That is a chunk of change.

This year we had a total of 145 pilots between all of our contests. If we were to have a little bit, say $5 from each contest, would come out to $725 to be divided among the team members. I know that isn't much, but every little bit helps.

If anyone has any other ideas to help our representatives out, feel free to post them. I am not familiar with setting up a GoFundMe page, but that could be a good option also.

Hi Mark, to further make your point and to also explain in part why the Nat's attendance is down from past turnouts,
your cost estimates are very conservative. For example, if you traveled (Drove) 1300 miles round trip, your real cost is about $820 based on $.63 per mile (conservative). If you are driving a truck with a trailer, camper, fith wheel or
motor home, the cost would be significantly higher.
In some cases, the entrees will be sharing the cost with others but to do it on your own, the cost will play a major
roll in deciding ones ability to attend.
The cost for holding the "Worlds" event is not a part of the IMAC budget (my understanding). The cost is bourn solely by sponsors and donations.
The cost of getting the teams from various attending countries should be attained from fund raising efforts in each
country.
We can do the same thing here and the funds should be distributed on a individuals "cost to attend" basis or a
flat out sum.
A few of us raised thousands of dollars in merchandise for the plane we raffled off in the membership drive a while back. So I think raising money for the US Team is definitely doable.
This would also help to resolve another problem (my opinion) that we have regarding entries representing other countries but that live in the US.
If your living in the US and do not have to qualify for the US team by representing another country, then you would not be eligible for any funds raised for the US Team.
I'm flying for Aruba and they're giving me $10,000 to cover expencesBigGrin Just kidding!

i agree with Steve, Mark's estimate is extremely conservative.
Wish I could fly everyday!

It you bring family much more closer to 2k.
Think the go fundme is an excellent idea we could all share it on or social media.
I'm down to help with the exception of a shirtless car wash, the WQ team would get paid to put our shirts back on LOL

The answer to all questions lies in the bottom of your fuel can, and in your plane setup

Ok, lets talk more about this please.

Had a BOD meeting last night and the SW guys and CD's have started a fund raiser of sorts. Though I like Mark's initial idea of $5.00 per head for the contests between now and World's. But maybe also a jug for dontations to the South Central World's qualifiers travel fund? It can be sent directly to SC Fund either by me or any individual that wishes to take it on per contest. When we get to the World's Week or a week or two before that, we take the raised monies and divide it by our qualifiers evenly. Could be a decent chuck of change and buy some fuel or a few meals or a night of hotel stay. Every little bit helps. These guys are taking on a large amount of expenses and if we can help them any way we can to represent South Central at the World's then I think we should give it all we have.

Any monies raised for this purpose would go directly to the SC team to offset some expenses.
Monies can be PayPal'd to me at sales@diamondcomp.com and make sure to MEMO the transfer as IMAC SC World's Travel Funds or can be mailed via check directly to

Also with a note with check explaining to Treasurer "IMAC SC World's Travel Funds" so Phil can keep in seperate column for me.

What say you guys?

Let's see what we can raise guys!

Great idea Doug.
Also, if anyone attending would like to bring along spare parts they are willing to share let the competitors in your Region (or everyone) know what your bringing in the way of spares if they are needed.
We did this at the Nat's and were able to keep a couple of contestants in the hunt with badly needed spares.
Batteries, oil, motors, ignitions, HEADERS!, Epoxy, CA. etc.
It would be a shame if someone went to all the expense and trouble to attend, had to drop out for want of a spare part.

This idea has sat here. It is time (past time) to get something going for our SC World's Competitors.
Following Suit with SW and NC.

SC has had it's season opener in El Paso this last month.. We also have had Baton Rouge this last weekend. Let's pass a donation can around and put that money towards helping our SC pilots pay the registration fees and travel ect. ect., for the Worlds in the event that follow. I hope that every CD for the rest of the season (Until World's in September) do this. Plan is to take all money collected and split it evenly between those that show up and fly the Worlds in September.

All money collected should be sent to the IMAC treasurer until it is divided.
