I have used Audacity for mixing music, not for free style, but it will work great for that plus it is free. Just do a search on Audacity and download it.

I use Microsoft Movie Maker 9 - good chance it might be on your computer already if you look but if not it's a free download from microsoft's website. You just use the audio portion and when your done and ready to burn it or save the file and all you have in it is an audio track, it will ask if you just want to do a audio file (mp3). I found it pretty intuitive to get started without reading much. Only down side is that it won't take IPOD music (what ever that file format is called) unless you convert to mp3 first.

3rd the audacity, free, easy to learn, will export variety of audio formats.
